This painting captures the deep colours of the West MacDonnell Ranges. In 2019, my sister, dad, and I hired a van and travelled through the ranges in Australia’s Northern Territory. I fell in love with the rich array of ochres, the big skies, and the freedom that came with being completely disconnected.

That trip sparked some big life decisions for me, and it still serves as a point of reflection today.

Katies Studio is committed to working consciously and responsibly, with care given to the environmental impact of my art practice. Wherever possible, I source materials and services from local and small businesses, supporting community-based production and reducing transport footprint. I reuse and repurpose packaging for storing and posting artworks, and upcycle vessels within the studio to give materials another life. I also prioritise Australian-made paints and products, making considered choices that align with a more sustainable and intentional way of working.
